6th August

August 9th, 2009 by Jake
Quiet last day in BC. Despite high spirits everyone is very much ready to leave and start heading out (to be honest, we'd quite like to just teleport straight home and avoid all the phaf and hard work of the actual journey!). The porters turned up a day early, yesterday afternoon, and so at one point there was the potential for us to leave this morning, so most of us had finished packing yesterday evening. In the end, we decided that it wasn't fair on the 2 members who came down the mountain yesterday morning, and that it would be better for them to have a full day of rest. The porters (all 69 of them) have been milling around all day, weighing loads, making a mess and generally being quite shifty! That said, their Sirdar (leader), has been keeping them in check, and they daren't do anything wrong when he's around, or they risk being sent back down the glacier without a load, and therefore without any pay.

The weather has been glorious all day, and the mountain has been out in all her splendour - almost as though she is taunting us - all the way down in BC. Tent platforms are very much past their best and very near breaking point, but hopefully we can make them last one last night...
