Happy Independence Day, or as it's also known in BC - Freedom from Brits Abroad Day! As George III mentioned in his diary today in 1776, 'Nothing of much significance happened today'. Although 'ol Georgie’ might have had his head stuck in the sand 233 years ago, the information is annoyingly correct for today in K2 BC. More snow during the night. Cards. Biscuits. Tea. Pretty much the same as the last 5 days since I was up the hill. I was contemplating a walk down to the Gilkey Memorial (the sight of a great number of plaques commemorating the fallen, and several graves) to stretch my legs after lunch, as I'm now fully aware that basecamp lassitude has well and truly set in. However, just as I was summoning up the courage to walk down to the memorial (whilst nursing my post lunch hot chocolate in the mess tent with most of the others), a team of Germans (and one Italian) from Broad Peak BC swept in like a hurricane. By the time that we'd all had another couple of cups of hot wet, the weather had come in, and the prospect of curling up in my tent with a book was much more attractive that actually doing any exercise. Those who know me well will agree that this is a common affliction that I suffer from. I really must get off my arse soon...
