Another hard day in the office…
February 18th, 2009 by Jake
So, what does an 'adventurer' get up to on an average day when he's not on an expedition? My office at home is my very own basecamp, from where I scheme and plan my world domination! Working from home certainly minimises the daily commute, but once in the office the day is usually spent planning expeditions, writing and sending out sponsorship proposals, talking to existing and potential sponsors and logistics providers, replying to endless emails (including a number of website submissions - which I always aim to make as personal as possible) and organising and planning my lectures. Last week I had an email from a UK outdoor equipment distributor asking for a quote for their website, and yesterday a nice thank you package containing 2 very smart new Victorinox pen-knives arrived! My walls are covered in maps and photos from my expeditions, so even when I'm day dreaming, it's hard not to be thinking about travel or adventure.
So, however much I may joke about my fear of actually working behind a desk, perhaps my own basecamp office is a small hypocrisy, but unfortunately not all expeditions are planned on the back of a beer mat (although perhaps that's where the best ideas originate from!).
