Rob Gauntlett
January 12th, 2009 by Jake
It was a terrible shock to hear of the death of a such an extremely talented young adventurer yesterday. Rob Gauntlett has been an inspiration to many (including me) even since before he climbed Everest in 2006 aged only 19. Last year's epic pole to pole journey was an incredible feat of endurance, but also demonstrated the spirit of true adventure.
I met Rob and James (Hooper) on the night I returned from Everest, and something about them meant that I knew that my Everest record wouldn't last for long. Of all the people who could have broken my record (and by so much), I'm so glad that it was these guys.
The fact that Rob died in Chamonix whilst climbing is proof that he passed whilst doing what he loved. He is still an inspiration to us all, to make the most of life, never to take the easy way out, and to continuously set our sights as high as possible.
We shouldn't see his death as an example of why not to do something, but as a reason for all of us to continue to make the most of life. Carpe Diem.
Though this expedition of life may have come to an end, he has merely moved seamlessly onto another adventure. Bon Voyage Rob.
